CycleHere Media Tells St. Augustine’s Stories from Behind the Lens

An ancient skill and current technology come together as CycleHere Media uses video to share the stories of local businesses, organizations, individuals, history and attractions with the world.

Donald and Janice Jones started CycleHere Media to help others engage their audiences and strengthen their brands. By designing thoughtful, artistic and impactful stories through video, they are able to do just that. Their exceptional ability to craft creative story designs has awarded them seven national awards for documentary, branding and promotional work.

Donald and Janice both began their careers as broadcast journalists. Although they attended rival schools (Janice at FSU and Donald at UF), they both happened to intern at WLTV 12 in Jacksonville at the same time. Following their internships, they returned to their respective schools only to have the rivalry continue when they re-met in 1995 while working at competing television stations in Savannah, GA. Twice was enough. After Savannah, they came as a package and worked side-by-side at stations in Florida and North Carolina with Janice as chief meteorologist and Donald as news anchor and reporter.

After more than 30 years combined experience in broadcast journalism, the Joneses decided to leave television news in search of a way to use their journalistic experience and storytelling skills in a way that would allow them creative freedom to the benefit and enlightenment of others. “We knew video storytelling would become increasingly attractive in our online world, and we knew we could do it well,” explains Janice.

Janice grew up in St. Augustine so it was a logical move to begin their new business in the nation’s oldest city. “We have family here, it’s on the water, and well, St. Augustine is just a lovely place to live!” says Janice.  (Not to mention, grandparents make fantastic babysitters.)

The Joneses were also excited to move back to a place that was flourishing and supportive, and held such a strong sense of local community. “I’m so proud of how much the local movement has grown,” says Janice. She remembers when St. Augustine’s most famous “locally made” product was Datil Do It sauce. “We are incredibly grateful for St. Augustine’s strong entrepreneurial spirit.”

The Joneses love helping their clients find success. “We are great appreciators of adventure and lifelong learning, so we relish each new client that brings a new subject to our attention,” explains Donald. “Every project is a new and exciting challenge for us.” Added bonuses for their work are that they are often able to include their children, family and friends in their work; they enjoy the opportunity to travel; they love the people they get to meet; and they have the ability to set their own schedule.

CycleHere Media has filmed much of St. Augustine’s tourist attractions, restaurants, businesses and organizations including Florida’s Historic Coast, St. Johns Cultural Council, KidzfACTory, tag! Children’s Museum, UF Whitney Laboratory for Marine Biosciences, Odd Birds, Milagro on 12, Ice Plant Bar, St. Augustine Distillery, The Raintree, The Hyppo and dozens more.
