Find your Groove at Funkytown Fitness
The “Funkytown Fairytale” began more than seven years ago when Beth Morucci approached Heidi Pidcock, her friend and co-worker at the St. Augustine YMCA, and asked her if she’d be interested in opening an exclusive, group fitness studio.
Having owned and managed a comprehensive fitness facility for 17 years, Beth recognized her friend’s talent, skill set and amazing following and felt confident they could build an incredibly successful partnership.
After months of planning and ultimately settling on a location, Funkytown Fitness opened its door in the Riverside Plaza on 312 in November of 2013. However, in order to meet the growing demand of clients and classes, they were quickly forced to relocate to a space twice as large and moved into their current home, a 4,000-square-foot space on Southpark Blvd.
The iconic name “Funkytown Fitness” is the result of a discussion Heidi had with her friend Laura, owner of Mojos Tacos, who thought the name Funkytown would be a cool name for a skating rink. So, when it came time for naming the studio, the fun name of “Funkytown Fitness” immediately came to Heidi’s mind.
Today, Funkytown is a thriving community of “funky, fitness fanatics.” There are more than 45 scheduled classes per week including Zumba, Spin, Les Mills programs (Body Pump, Body Flow, Sprint), Barre, and Yoga - each taught by certified, seasoned instructors. “AMP” small group and personal training is also available.
This month, Funkytown will add another 2,000 square feet to their existing their facility to include a state-of-the-art spin room and a small group and personal training room featuring TRX, a functional multi-purpose cable machine, dumbbells and kettlebells, Olympic bumper plates, and cardio equipment. To the delight of parents, the new addition also means the launch of Funky Kids Zone and Kids Classes.
