Traditional Irish food and signature seafood dishes, such as corned beef and cabbage, fish and chips and Shepard’s Pie are some of Meehan’s specialties. Johnny's Oyster Bar upstairs has a full bar and a fabulous deck where you can overlook the Matanzas River while you dine. Head to the Backyard at Meehan’s Island Cafe and Tropical Bar for a Caribbean style menu and atmosphere.

But Meehan’s boasts more than just a great menu and wonderful atmosphere, as it is deeply rooted in St. Augustine’s history. The site where Meehan’s sits was originally used for construction storage during the building of Castillo de San Marcos (located just 150 feet north of the restaurant!).

The building that is now Meehan’s once was the private home of William Diskmuits, built in 1917. Diskmuits was the first president of the First Florida National Bank. And his wife is one of the reasons St. Augustine still has its coquina City Gates. The city was going to demolish the gates in the name of progress. The women’s preservation group, of which Mrs. Diskmuits was a member, protested against this action and stopped the city from tearing them down.

Enthralled by history (both Irish and American), establishing Meehan’s in 2010 was a dream come true for the late John Meehan. A veteran in the hotel industry with Irish roots dating back to the early 1600s, it was only natural that he wanted to own his very own pub in America’s most historical city! Sadly, John lost his battle to cancer in 2015, but his friends, family and employees have continued to run the restaurant according to his dream. As a result, Meehan’s has become a staple of the downtown food scene.
