Pockets of Sage: To Catch What Life Throws at Us
After graduating from Flagler College, Sarah Ponce’s life took a track familiar to many of us. She got married, worked from home and started a family.
Caught up in the day-to-day, Sarah realized she didn’t have a hobby. Her life consisted of caregiving in her home childcare business and some occasional gardening and house painting.
In a quest for a hobby, Sarah began taking sewing lessons at night and making clothes for her newborn baby. However, as that baby grew into a little person, her daughter soon preferred a wardrobe filled with the latest styles from Target.
Undeterred, Sarah continued sewing but shifted her focus and began making handbags as Christmas gifts. The bags were so well-received Sarah began selling her items on eBay and Etsy. Her success continued and she established her business, Pockets of Sage, named after her daughter. She expanded her storefront to include the Saturday Farmers Market where she’s had a booth since 2006.
Today, Sarah still has a passion for creating usable items from a piece of fabric and designing new things to go out into the world. She makes bags, purses, backpacks, wallets, reusable sandwich sacks, yoga mat bags, diaper bags -- and anything to carry everything.
Find Sarah, along with her daughter and son, weekly at the Amphitheatre and be sure to stop by Pockets of Sage at Made in St. Augustine.
